If you have your own unit, click on the "Your Own Unit" link now, your
on the wrong info page.

These positions driving a PROVIDED cargo unit are all OTR.

Current expedited job openings, Owner Operators / Independent
Contractors:

There are several openings currently available if you DO NOT HAVE YOUR OWN expedited cargo unit described below.

*CARGO VAN: 3/4 ton HD / 8600# GVWR cargo van
*CARGO VAN: 1 ton cargo van
*CUBE VAN: Cube van under or over 10,000# GVWR
*DOCK HIGH STRAIGHT TRUCK: With or without a sleeper
*Tractor w/trailer: Occasionally, tractors with trailers, (with
sleepers) become available.

OTR only.

There are several openings remaining if you DO NOT have your own expedited cargo unit as described above. Regardless of unit size or type, these are all (OTR) over the road positions. All these units have sleeping quarters in the unit.

DRIVER WAGES:
35% of the load. Vans are grossing .80 cplm and trucks earn
$1.25 cplm. Example: If your supplied a vehicle by a fleet owner or
carrier, your paid 35% of the load. To determine what each load pays, you take the distance times the vehicles rate per mile times 35% to calculate your wage (per mile). Each load will be different in terms of length but the average load is around 540 miles + or -. They of course vary and all loads will be more or less than the 540 average.

To calculate an estimated wage, just take (for a van) .80 cents
times 540 (average) miles equals XYZ, then times that by 35%. That would be your wage for those miles on that specific load. Use $1.25 times 540 (average) miles equals XYZ, then times that by 35% to get that estimated wage. Cargo vans require only a standard operators licence.

The longer the haul, the higher the wage, the shorter the load, the
lower the wage. Again, wages will vary based on the load distance.

If there is a team in a large truck, each driver is paid for only
their drive time as per the log books documentation.

Big dock high trucks all have teams (2 drivers) splitting the miles,
never solo. Figure approximately 1500 miles a week more or less each driver. These are estimates. Individual results will vary.

You will be paid direct deposit for wages, but the direct deposit
takes 5-10 business days to set up, hence the need for you to have
sufficient operating capital until your payroll kicks in.

DIRECT DEPOSIT:
Payroll is inserted directly into your checking or savings account
via direct deposit.

FUEL SURCHARGES:
Fuel surcharges are paid by carrier to the fleet owner providing the
vehicle.

QUAL COMMS:
Qual Comms are paid by fleet owner or carrier

LICENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Trucks require a CDL and 2 years of verifiable experience in
the same sized unit. CDL's and 2 years of verifiable experience is
required for any large truck. No experience is required in a cargo
van. Vans are always solo (one driver) and big trucks always require teams (2 drivers).

HOME TIME:
When a unit is provided, it will be an OTR job and there is a clue in the term OTR. Home time is seldom, most of the time your over the road. Depending on where you live in the US, that home location will greatly influence your home time. If you live in the upper Midwest, it's more often. If your way south, like Florida, expect less home time except on major holidays. No one can predict when you'll be home except for major holidays and of course when your
within 200 miles, we expect you to go home, even if you were there the day before since it's unpredictable when the next time will be.

DETENTION:
Detention is very rare. Normally an expedited load is required to be
picked up on demand / immediately and delivered straight through and unloaded immediately. Rarely, is there any delay.

DRY RUNS:
Dry runs rarely occur when a load is coordinated and then cancelled. It can be cancelled for a variety of reasons such as - A. The load had last a minute increase of quantity and requires a larger unit or B. Maybe the shipper needs more time to prepare the additional quantities of freight.

TOLLS:
Authorized tolls are paid to the unit owner for reimbursement to the
driver.

IFTA's:
IFTA's are paid by fleet owner and reimbursed by the carriers.

PERSONAL TRAVEL WITH ISSUED UNIT:
Personal Travel with the issued cargo unit is permissible but limited so you don't add a bazillion miles to the fleet owners unit and spend all their gas money. If you pay the fuel, your personal mileage is UN RESTRICTED. Which applies will be determined during your recruitment process. You should go home or to relatives whenever your nearby to those locations and / or holidays.

TIME OFF:
Since this is an OTR position with an issued cargo unit, your time off off is each time your not under load.

Most weekends are VERY slow and non productive. Wherever you are on that weekend, do as you wish with your time.

MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS ON THE CARGO UNITS:
These are all coordinated by the fleet owner.

VEHICLE EXCHANGE REQUIREMENT:
When your issued a cargo unit of any size, you may need to exchange your personal automobile for the issued cargo unit while you have custody and control of the cargo unit. This is strictly for collateral in the event you quit or are terminated and decide to drop the cargo unit off without returning it to the carrier or fleet owners designated pick up / drop off location. This has happened and this exchange leaves some protection for the carrier / fleet owner. Your automobile will go into storage. You may use the cargo unit for personal use, even to home. This prevents the requirement of a fleet owner or carrier to have to find, chase down, retrieve and re-deliver their cargo unit if you attempt to just dump it somewhere and you will also have transportation via your issued cargo unit, when your at home, relatives or wherever.

ORIENTATION / TRAINING SESSION:
You'll need to attend an orientation by the carrier. This takes about
6-8 hours. This is when you'll take your drug test, complete your
application for employment and attend a training and Q & A session by the carrier. This is where you'll obtain your cargo unit and drop of
your vehicle for exchange as well if one is required.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED / SUPPLIED BY YOU.

1. Before you do anything, we need to make sure your eligible, based on an acceptable driving record. You must fax in your "current" MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) showing your driving history with citations and / or current points. You can get this at your local Licence Branch / Bureau of Motor Vehicles, where you would renew your drivers licence / change a car title at. These will cost around $8.00 and you'll need 2 ID's like your drivers licence and a birth certificate. Just go there and request your MVR and get the longest one they offer in terms of time. They may ask if you want a 3, 5 or 10 year record. Get the longest they offer. Fax this to 260.420.3458 and be sure to:

* Write your email address
* Phone number
* No Unit / OTR / Several weeks

All of that on the MVR so we may understand what your attempting to do with us. Those 3 bits of information will be clues to us on what to do with your information. Once we receive your MVR, we will email you if it has been approved or not followed by further instructions. If you don't see it shortly after faxed in, be sure to check your spam folder or junk mail incase our reply went in there. Often times we find that they do, based on your email settings. Once your MVR is approved, proceed to #2 below but not until, we give you the green light.

2. GPS navigation (Garmin, Lowrance, Magellin or others). The carrier or fleet owner will only supply the cargo unit, not this or any other items. All units have built in sleepers and are insulated.

3. Communication:
A Sprint Boost Mobile (or Nextel) 2 way walkie talkie (when qual comms are not installed / supplied by by carrier)..

The Boost Mobiles are perhaps the best choice. These cost around
$47.00 and can be obtained at most retailers like Wal Mart, Target,
Best Buy etc. They do have a plan for the service that cost a dollar
a day (for the days you use it) with unlimited talk time. These also
have emailing, Internet and GPS navigation capability. It is however
recommended to have a stand alone GPS unit. The Sprint item (Boost or Nextel) you choose, does NOT have to be cellular enabled. It can function as a 2 way radio only. The Boost requires no contract. The Nextel will require a contract. Boost also has an unlimited program for $50.00 a month (voice mail,Internet, email, GPS etc.). As long as you have the 2 way radio, you do not need a cell phone, but it's ok if you do. When you get the 2 way radio, you may if you wish, activate the cellular part of the 2 way equipment but it is not required as only the radio / walkie talkie is a requirement. The dollar a day program will cost you around $280.00 a year (only charged for the days you use it). If you get the $50.00 a month program, that will cost you $600.00 a year. Qual comms will cost you $35.00 a week plus installation & removal charges. You can choose a carrier that does not mandate a qual comm if you prefer the 2 way program for it's reduced cost (tax deductible).

4. Required Operating Funds You Must Have: We highly recommend you have around $500.00 and this will be verified. You will need this money for food, showers, snacks, cigarettes and fuel. You need money until you get your first paycheck. We can't send you out penniless.

The reason why you need this operating money is because Paydays are every other Friday and you will only be issued a cargo unit with it's freight harness equipment. We will not give you cash or credit cards to cover food coffee or cigarettes.

Therefore, you will need money in a reasonable excess amount to last you until your first payday for personal items or if there is a flat tire (which would be reimbursed to you).

You will be paid direct deposit for wages, but the direct deposit takes 5-10 business days to set up, hence the need for you to have sufficient operating capital until your payroll kicks in.

5. Vehicle Insurance: You'll either be added to the Fleet Owner's
existing policy, or you will have to procure a policy on your own.
What will determine which one will take place will be based on the
condition on your past driving history. 1) You'll be added to the
fleet owners policy, if you have a clean MVR. 2) If you have any
points or citations in the last 36 months, you may be required to get
your own insurance policy on the fleet owners unit. If this happens,
in your case, we will give you the VIN # and the fleet owner's
insurance companies phone number to acquire the policy in your name. A deposit is normally required in this example. The fleet owner will reimburse you for the normal amount they would have paid on your policy. Any increase in premium will be paid by you ~ not the fleet owner, as they shouldn't absorb an increase due to the condition of your MVR.

Qualifications: Job Requirements:
The required qualifications for this position include but are not limited to:
Acceptable driving record
Ability to pass a background check
Ability to pass pre and random drug and alcohol tests
Ability to enjoy over the road driving
Ability to operate ones own personal business in an efficient and
profitable manner

RECOMMENDED ITEMS - (but NOT required):
Items recommended / to be considered having to create a smooth and efficient operating business (if you have your own cargo van or
straight truck, or not) would be - modern day technology: Be sure you keep all receipts to apply against your income taxes. Food, showers, gloves, tools, Internet, cell phones, 2 ways, printer / scanners / faxes, computers, navigation, vehicle insurances, fuel, vehicle repairs and maintenance should all be applied to your taxes. Buy them, apply against your taxes. Tax preparers familiar with truckers taxes are highly recommended. Add these things to your operation as you go.

A. Email on the road. Often times you'll want to communicate with your carrier or fleet owner and it's best if you can do this at any time.
You will periodically need to communicate with your carriers
accounting departments regarding wages and often times their times are limited so if you can email any time, this is best.

B. A computer tower or laptop in your unit on the road (around $99.00 at Wal Mart for compact laptops). If you have a computer with Wi-Fi, you can access hot spots all over with free Internet access to pay bills online, scan BOL's and email or fax and you can do these things without the need of an air card using free Wi-Fi. A CD player is nice to download dollar movies from Netflix.

C. A printer, copier, scanner combination for on the road (around
$35.00 at Office Depot). If you do not have a computer with scanning and / or faxing capability, you will most likely encounter unnecessary expenses when required to immediately email or fax BOL's into your carrier. It is common place nowadays that carriers need their signed BOL's immediately or shortly thereafter each delivery. Many operators will go to truck stops instead of faxing these documents from the consignee or from their own machinery. Every time you pay a dollar for a fax you can shift that expense towards a purchase of a fax or a scanner / email.

D. A compact regular or flat screen HD TV, CD/VCR

E. A compact cooking skillet / stove of some type to have home cooked meals to save money and eat right while on the road

F. A YMCA membership card (can be used anywhere in the USA) for
showers, working out, swimming and other activities in between loads). A yearly single cost is about $450.00 (about $1.25 a day or a family membership is about $700.00 yearly / $1.91 a day cheaper with a company (about $410.00 a year). Truck stops are nice but Y's are nicer with more amenities.

G. Truck stop fuel "points" cards (any size van or truck). There is a
new program out there for TA, Flying J, Loves truck stops and others. They now have these plastic cards (like a credit card) and you can get points on them each time you purchase fuel from them, gas or diesel.

You just go inside and fill out the form and they activate the card
for you right away. Every 50 gallons of fuel you get points for a free
shower and / or meal (check with truck stops for current offerings).
This way if you don't have a Y membership or one is not as close as these places, get your shower there daily WITHOUT having to pay for it. If there's one by your house, get it now or get them as you
encounter them, but get them all set up or get one for each truck stop for convenience sake.

H. Also, if you don't have a debit card from your bank or credit
union, apply for one asap as they normally take about 7-10 days to get in the mail. This debit card will allow you to make ANY type of
purchase by swiping the card. Fuel, food, groceries whatever. All
carriers and fleet owners will direct deposit your wages right into
your checking or savings account for you and your money is easily
accessible wherever you are at any time with your debit card. Using
the debit card method / direct deposit, you can avoid the Com Data
fees for each advance / purchase.

I. A cooler for left over's, ice, soda's, a gallon of milk etc.. Coleman sells a heater / cooler combination at most camp outlets.

Use your imagination to make your time on the road more enjoyable! Bring whatever you want to while your on the road.

Note: IC has the potential to realize a profit or loss by entering
into any business endeavor / relationship with any carrier or fleet
owner. Individual results will vary.
Note: You will be required to pass a drug test.
Note: cplm = cents per loaded mile.
Note: Independent Contractor (IC)
Note: OTR - Over The Road
